Trophies ready to be awarded for the 2017 Kasabonika Lake Men’s Hockey Tournament

Weather: -11 Snowing with gusting winds

  • Mild temperatures in the forecast have forced the winter road section from the Checkpoint to the turnoff to be closed on Friday, February 17th. The road will continue to be closed all day Saturday February 18, and Sunday February 19, with the road only open at night for both dates. As of right now Monday, February 20 has yet to be determined.
  • The Annual Kasabonika Men’s Hockey Tournament kicks off today at 7pm with Exhibition games. The first game is between the Kasabonika Warriors and Flames at 7pm.
    8pm: Islanders vs Eagles
    9pm: Flames vs Eagles
    10pm: Islanders vs Warriors
    The games will be two periods of 20-25 minutes each. Admission for tonight is 2$ each for everyone.
    The tournament officially starts at 3PM on Wednesday with an opening prayer. 
    First puck drops is at 4PM when Kasabonika Eagles face off against Kasabonika Islanders.
    Second game at 5:30PM between Michikan Mavericks and Sandy Lake Riverhawks
    Third Game at 8:30PM  between Kingfisher Flyers and Team Webequie
    Fourth game at 10PM between Kasabonika Eagles and Michikan Mavericks
  • Community members with concerns about Wataynikaneyap Power are invited to give input at a meeting tomorrow. Members of the Pembina Institute and Shibogama Tribal Council will be present to answer any questions .The meeting starts at 10AM in the School gym. Food and refreshments will be served.
  • The grade 11 class is having a silent art auction this week. Tickets are one dollar and their paintings are on display at the school. Ticket buyers can pick a painting and a number and the draw will be held Friday, February 17, 2017 
  • Journalists for Human Rights launched the Kasabonika Lake First Nation Instagram yesterday along with a photo contest. Anyone can submit photos that depict life in Kasabonika. The prize is a 50 dollar gift card submit your photos to Sara mai chitty on Facebook or to
